One of the most precise and effective methods of cutting is termed diamond wire cutting. The method consists of a thin wire impregnated with diamond particles that cuts while the wire is being moved across the workpiece. This method can easily cut hard brittle materials such as stones, glass, and ceramics. Additionally, the method can be employed within the mining industry to recover large blocks of precious minerals from the ore. While it may seem difficult, this task is made easier by the fact that each diamond particle on the wire acts as a minute cutting tool which wears down the material gradually as the wire is moved. Like most other forms of industry, it has its advantages, for example, this technique has lower kerf loss when compared to other methods, or waste cut-off material. Furthermore, this method of cutting allows for smooth surface finishes which further reduces the need for additional finishing operations after cutting.
